Friday the 13th

Yesterday, the 2 sets of pillows & bolsters which I ordered from Lala arrived at the office. Seeing the actual products in front of me, I realized it would be too much of a hassle for me to bring them home by bus. So I decided to do the not-so-pleasant yet most practical thing that came to mind: bring a car to the office this morning. I tell you this is not such an exciting task, especially if you keep in mind the Ramadan traffic I’d have to face. Luckily the traffic wasn’t all too heavy this morning, so I was able to arrive “on time” for a 9:00 am meeting at Kuningan.

Our meeting finished at around 10:30 and since Iboy had some personal errands to make, Sigit and I headed back to the office using my car. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. That was until we reached the Chase parking lot. In search of a parking space, we eyed a blue Suzuki APV pulling out of a space on the 5th floor. We were still on the 4th floor, which meant we still had to make a left turn to reach to our desired parking space. Knowing I would be passing the descending APV, I stopped the car before making a turn. I carefully waited for the APV to pass me. And then what happened saudara-saudara…….???? The blue APV ran into my freshly painted purple Baleno. Arrrrgh!! Or quoting Yoga’s words… “What Tje Fuk???” What the hell did I do wrong?? Nothing! I was in my lane and I stopped. I patiently waited for the darn APV to pass me. But the APV? It was in the wrong lane and it easily ran into the right tip of my car. So now the bumper is full of skid marks, my right lamp out of place, and the very tip of my machine cap also tarnished.

The person who hit my car was a driver from a 7th floor office. Obviously I couldn’t expect much from him. All I asked for was for him to acknowledge his careless driving. Even that took a while to get out of him. Good thing a handful of witnesses was at “the scene of the crime.” But what was worrying me more was the fact that my car had not been insured for quite some time. Looking at the wreck, I made a rought calculation of how much I’d have to strip out of my thinning bank account. So evidently I screamed my heart out and fought for my rights. I demanded this case be reported to the office. After a brief session with the General Affairs Department, they agreed to cover my loss. To do so, I had to bring my car to their service station near Mal Ambassador. After the car was inspected the office informed us that the APV was actually fully insured, with coverage for third party liability. So instead we had to go to Asuransi Central Asia (ACA), file a claim and settle everything there. Although this may sound brief, the whole process actually took hours. I didn’t get back to the office until 4:30 pm. Good thing Sigit was there, not only as a witness but also to drive for me since I was still in a sudden state of shock.

So then I think ok…that’s the end of my ordeal today. But guess what else happened today? Dandi, my cousin, picked me up this evening. Before skimming the city, I decided to get some fuel. The funny thing was, when Dandi was about to open the gas cap he wasn’t able to find one. Apparently, within the course of this week, someone somehow managed to steal my gas cap!!!

Uuuggh…unbelievable! What more can I ask for??

Now believe it or not I realized when filling out my claim at the insurance company that today was Friday the 13th. I don’t want to be superstitious or anything, but could it be just a mere coincidence that all this bad luck occurred on this day. FYI, I also witnessed the remains of 3 other car accidents during the course of the day – a significant increase compared to what you would normally see in a given day.

Oh well, I don’t know. And I don’t care. All I wanna say is that today was a crazy, emotional, and tiring day. I’m just glad that everything was settled well. I even apologized at the driver for screaming at him (although he should’ve been the one apologizing for blaming me as the reckless driver). All I have to do now is wait till after Lebaran to bring my car to the auto body repair workshop.
Uuugh….
